MID-CANTERBURY

WILLOWBY. The Tinwald Players Company presented its three one-act comedies, 'The Bathroom Door," "Number Off," and "Asking Father" in the Willowby Hall on Wednesday, when there was a large attendance. The performance was in aid of the Willowby School funds. ~ The meteorological report for April is as follows:—The greater part of the month was comparatively dry, only 23 points of rain having fallen prior to the 28th, when 1.27 inches fell, followed by another 35 points before the end of the month. Rain fell on eight occasions, the total rainfall for the month amounting to 1.85 inches, thus bringing the total amount registered for the first four months of this year up to 6.72 inches.* While the majority of the days have been sunny, there has been a large proportion of foggy evenings and mornings, the fog which enveloped the district and surrounding country on Friday night, the 27th, being the densest experienced for some considerable time.

The fortnightly meeting of the Willowby Mutual Improvement Society was well attended. A programme dealing with "Folk Songs, Sea Shanties— Their Origin and History," arranged under the direction of Miss R. Stoddart, was contributed.

RAKAIA.

The monthly meeting of the Rakaia branch of the P.W.M.U. was held in St. Andrew's schoolroom on Thursday afternoon. A circular letter was received from the P.A. requesting the branch to arrange to hold the annual meetings in October, as the Assembly meetings are now to be held in March, instead of November. A missionary letter from Mrs Riddle, of Jagadhri, was read by Mrs Morrison. Subsequently the annual meeting of St. Andrew's Ladies' Guild was held, and the officers were re-elected.

DORIE.

The rainfall at Dorie for April was very light until the 28th, when after a spell of foggy mornings, a steadv downpour of rain set in and continued until the 30th, 2.45 inches being registered The rainfall for the month was 2.72 inches.
