FINED FOR ASSAULT.

SEQUEL TO PARTY. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TM.EGBAM.) PALMERSTON NORTH, May 3. A sequel to an episode which occurred on the night of March 31st took place in Court this morning, when Lionel Clifford Nimmo. aged 20, was charged with common assault on a domestic servant. The original charge of indecent assault had been reduced. On counsel's application this morning accused pleaded guilty. According to the police statement, a party of young people had been celebrating, and all became considerably the worse for liquor. Apparently there had been faults on both sides. Counsel for accused said that the latter pleaded guilty to avoid publicity to the parties concerned. Accused had borne a good character. The Magistrate refused counsel's appeal to impose a nominal penalty, and fined Nimmo £5 and costs. An" application for suppression of his name was refused.
