The mimic battle for whieh elaborate preparations had been made evestoatsd early this morning in the vicinity of » Orewa beach, in the Hsoraki Golf, the j Army, Navy, and Air Forces partiei- j pating. The defenee was represented by a ; skeleton force of 134 engineer*, under 1 Major Miles. They had constructed a pontoon bridge, which was oae of the i features of the manoeuvres. Four war ships, the Dunedin, IMomede, Laburnum, and Veronica, and 427 Territorials comprised the attacking force. Before dawn the assaulting party headed for shore in boats in two flights, while overhead a Bristol lighting aeroplane made j a reconnaissance to counter the enemy | attack, guns from the warships thudding harmlessly.
