PERSONAL. Dr. R. B. Phillipps, Cashmere, who has been on a holiday visit to Timaru, has returned to Christehureh. Mr E. F. Hollands, general manager," Municipal Eleetricity Department, Timaru, is expected to return from Christchurch to-day. Dr. F. F. A. Ulrich has left on a motor tour through North Canterbury. Dr. Home (New Plymouth) is a guest at the Hydro Grand Hotel. Boys' Juvenile Lodge. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Timaru Boys' Juvenile Lodge of Oddfellows was held on Wednesday, -when Bro. Biehard Vincent presided. A welcome was extended to Chaperon Sister Parmenter and Sisters Nancy Jacobs and Minnie Webb, official visitors from the Girls' Lodge, and to P.P.G.M. Bro. E. Foden and Bro. P. Low, official visitors from the adult Lodge. One new member was initiated. The secretary explained certain measures for increasing the usefulness of the Lodge, and it was decided to bring these into operation without delay. Tennis. The following is the tennis ranking list for South Canterbury: —D. C. Johnston, N. Cramond, G. Innes-Jones, W, G. Robertson, W. Pearse, Dr. D. M. Paterson, F. Mackenzie, Dr. W. R. Fea, W. Benton, J. McKay, G. Smythe, P. Houlihan, J. Satterthwaite. Magistrate's Court. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., William Wall (Mr W. D. Campbell) pleaded guilty to a charge that at Pleasant Point on January 28th, being the licensee of the Railway Hotel, he had sold liquor after hours. Defendant was fined £l, with costs. Hugh Alexander Davison, Cornelius Daly, and Walter Wilson were each fined £3 with costs on a charge of being on the licensed premises of the Railway Hotel, Pleasant Point, after # hours. Thomas White was fined 15s, with costs, for cycling at night without lights. Frank Hood, who pleaded not guilty to driving a motor-car along Evans street in a manner whieh might prove dangerous to the public, was eonvieted and ordered to pay costs. On the application of Ifie police, Nor-' man Stewart, «rho was charged with, at Ashburton on December 28th, obtaining five sacks of wheat valued at £4 5s . from Wright, Stephenson and Co. by means of a false pretence, was remanded to appear at Ashburton to-day. Elizabeth Jenkins, caterer, Stafford street, charged with having sold milk that did not comply with the standard prescribed by the regulations, was convicted and ordered to pay costs. Lucy Ann O'Brien proceeded against Martin Joseph O'Brien, Culverden, for separation, maintenance, and guardianship orders. Defendant was ordered to pay £*l a week for maintenance of hia wife, first payment to be ma da on February 21st. No order was made in respect to the plaint for separation and guardianship.,
Stanley Robert Pencil, d£ Ashburton, was charged with baring disobeyed the terms ©£ a maintenance order in respect of his wife, the arrears amounting to £36. Defendant was. convicted and senteneed to three months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided he pays 15s a week on the order and 15b a week off the arrears.
Mark David McCarthy, of St. Andrew's, was charged with failing to observe the terms of a maintenance order in respect of an illegitimate child, the arrears being £IOO 0s 6d. Defendant was convicted and sentenced to three months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as he pays 12s 6d a week on the order and £1 a week ' off the arrears.
