STRAND THEATRE.
The programme for the week is headed by "Rookies," starring Karl Dane and G. K. Arthur. The story tells of t* lo doings at a citizens' military training camp, and centres round the advantnres of a raw trainee and a very tough sergeant, who tread on each other's corns at every possible moment in their endeavours to get even with each other. It is crammed full of screamingly funny incidents, a particularly good thrill being provided by a balloon ascent, wherein the raw rookie proves that heroes are wrapped up in small and funny parcels. Betty Wayne, a piquant littl-j shopkeeper, is largely responsible for the unsoldierly antagonism between the sergeant and the recruit. Marceline iay provides the female interest, and Tom O'Brien, Lincoln Steadman, Frank Currier, and Louise Lorraine appear in the very talented cast. "High School Hero," starring Sally Phipps and Nick Stewart, a comedy, a variety, and topicala complete the bill.
