THE WEATHER.

Meteorological observations taken at the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch, at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on December 24th: —

Forecast. An anti-cyclone is advancing across the southern Tasman Sea. There ia evidence of a cyclone developing in the northern Teaman. Present indications aro for moderate to strong and freshening north to east winds veering lo south-easterly soon front Cook Strait southwards, and later eoutherlies becoming general; Beas generally moderate in •New. Zealand waters but rising on, the eastern coast; moderato to strong,cast to scutb vihds and rather seas in the eastern Tasmari Sea; tho weather generally unsettled, cloudy, and misty with rain in most, districts and pome heavy falls in parts of the northern and eastern portionn of the North Island: thunder probable at places and temperatures becoming cooler.
