HORTICULTURAL TRADES ASSOCIATION.
CANTERBURY COUNCIL. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Council of the New Zealand Horticultural ■ Trades Association was held in the White Star board-room last evdfiittg. 'There was a Very large gathering 6f members and 6evertl apologies were received. Mr W. Edginton, the retiring ptesident, occupied the chair, and welcomed members and Mr Oeo. A. Green, Dominion organiser. The annual report stated that there had teen a number of meetings during the year, and 6 great deal of valuable work had been carried out. A sew award in connexion with the trade llftd beOtt secured, completely by conciliation. The Shop Hours Act had been put into operation, llr (Ireeri had furnished a raoat exhaustive and instructive account of his reeent visit to Auatralih. The financial statement showed a substantial credit balance.
Mr Green stated that the Dominion Association was IB an excellent position as to Membership and also finance. Tho election of local officers resulted as folloWßl president. 1929, Mr J. N. McLeod; vice-chairmen, Messrs J. McDonald, T, D. Lertnie, C. Oibbons, end A. H. Shrubsha!l; hon. 6ecretiry an d treatiurer, Mr Svdnev G. Smith: to-pfbor with the paSt-Prcaident, Mr W. Edginton, to form the executive. Tno various ('oittmittcea were re-elected, with power to add. The nomination of Mr V. C. Davits, of Taranaki, as Dominion president, was supported. _ ■ Tho meetihg at this stage took the form of a Conference Committee to diaeuss arrahgementa for the. conference, to be held in Ctiriatchurch in January. A luAitt' Committee, Reception Commit' tee, and Meetings Committee were set up. Final details were left to a meeting of tho executive. •
