SPRINGS-ELLESMERE.

Th« monthly meeting of tho Springs-Ellcs- | were Electric ' Power Board was held at i Leeston on Monday, when there were present: l Messrs A. E. Langdale Hunt, G. Maginness, H. Neave, and * R. T. McMillan. Mr. Neave (acting chairman) welcomed' the new member, Mr McMillan, who had previously served on the Board prior to the reduction in membership. Tho Engineer reported that six new consumers had been connected, the total connected load now being 5380.649 kilowatts. The sales o£ current for the month showed au increase of i 228 12s 5d over last year's figures. Arising from discussion regarding installation and alteration work in houses, the Engineer mentioned that it would be necessary to have additional assistanco and motor transport. It was agreed that the Engineer should go fully into the matter, and bring in a report at next meeting. A list of amounts guaranteed by residents of Halkett desirous of becoming consumers was presented by Mr Hunt. Tho total amount guaranteed wag £219 4s, with prospects of others coming In. He did not object ■to the classes boing open to competitors in other districts, provided the Power Boards in those districts, in providing prizoß.for cookery displays, left thara open to competitors in the Springs-Ellesmere district. _ It was decided to consider these suggestions when the monoy for next year's prizes is being voted._ The Public Works Department granted the Board permission to tap off • the Hansen s lane feeder, subject to certain: conditions. It was agreed that' tho Engineer should write the Waimairi County Council three alternative proposals: (l) That tne Board should purchase portion of the Council's Hansen's lano line in order to * cr ™ its consumers in that neighbourhood; > that the Connci! should provide space on its polos for the Board's lines; (3) that the Council remove its lines from the xioara b side of the lane.
