GAMBLER SHOT.
NEW YORK SENSATION. BIG FORTUNE FROM SWINDLES. (USITID PBXSB ASSOCIATION—BY KUBCTBIO TELKOBAPH—COPTKIQET.) . I NEW YOBK, November 11. Arnold Eothstein was seated with four other friends gambling with 1000 dollars each on the turn of a high Spade, when a quarrel arose, and somebody shot Arnold through the body. He was known in life as an arch-gambler, and in death as Broadway's Shy lock. Eothstein was hastily removed to hospital, where a blood transfusion might have saved him, but from the first he insisted on hiding the secrets of the sources of his wealth, even with death staring at him, and by the time he had signed a will disposing of his estate of £3,000,000 he was beyond surgical aid. "Who shot youl" detectives asked him, but Kothstein, respecting the law of Gangland, shook his head and died. The police have learned that in his assets are the plunder of famous robberies, swindles, and the late Nicky Amstein's £1,000,000. The loot is said to repose in Eothstein's strong-boxes, and there are 100,000 dollars' worth of bonds stolen from Wall street messengers in hold-ups. With these clues the police believe that the Eothstein shooting will rank amongst- the sensational crimes of the past fifty years.—United Service.
