WOMEN IN HOUSE.

INCREASED REPRESENTATION.

(Received November 7th, 10.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 7. Among noted Senators who have been elected are the Republicans Senator Frazier and Senator La Follette, who call themselves Progressives, Senator Johnson Beed, of Pennsylvania, and Senator Fess. Ex-Bepresentative Burton has been elected to take the place of the late Senator Willis. The Democrats include Senators Ashurst, McKellar, and Swanson, the latter from the Southern States that voted for Mr Hoover. Twenty-one women were nominees for [ the House of Bepresentatives, there being four in the former House. The latest returns indicate that these four were returned and three new women members elected, including the daughter of William Jennings Bryan, and the first woman to be Bent by New York City to . Congress.—Australian Press Association. GOOD MAJORITY IN SENATE. (Beceived November 7th, 11.30 p.in.) NEW YOBK, November 6. Taken all in all, the Eepublican victory is the greatest in history. The Party will control 53 Senate seats and possibly more; a majority of 10 is assured. On the other hand the magnitude of the Democratic defeat carirtot be overestimated. It appears that Mr Hobver will carry Texas with a 40,000 majority, and possibly. Virginia similarly. These never before have been Eepublican, In the House of Representatives 251 Republicans were elected, 182 Democrats and two Farmer-Labour-ites. "Big Bill" Thorilpson> of Chicago, interestingly enough, has suffered another defeat, following on the rout of his supporters at tKe Chicago elections in April. He was in control of the Cook County Eepublican organisation, and it appears that virtually the entire local list of Eepublican nominees for judgeships, county and municipal offices were decisively defeated, the entire Democratic list being swept in by large majorities.—Australian Press Association. THE STATE GOVERNORS. (Received November 7th, 11.25 p.m.) NEW YOBK, November 7; The Republican landslide brought with it a majority Of Republican dfnciais in all the State elections; Twenty Republican State Governors were chosen against seven Democratic. It is interesting to note that Mr Dan Moody, of Texas, who was probably Mr Smith's strongest opponent before his nomination, has been re-elected Governor of that State.—Australian Press Association.
