As one prime beast a(te*r anrvi-tior xxrac nut nn *lia Rarntl' De Beef, President of the Club, accompanied by Signor Spaghetti, spiritedly entered the bidding on behalf of our best local butchers, ultimately outstripping rival bidders for many of the choicest lots. "It's little use putting a great edifice on a poor foundation," remarked the Baron afterwards. "In other words it's unsatisfactory to put piles of Mustard on tough steak. I—2 Certainly the Mustard would stimulate the gastric juices to cope with the situation—in fact, the motto of the Club in regard to cuts from aged animals might well be 'Mustard makyth Methuselahs like unto mince meat.' Nevertheless good Mustard deserves to be in good company." Here he smote his latest purchase on the fifth rib. The bullock turned a sad, pensive gaze on the smiter, but brightened perceptibly at the sight of the Mustard Club Badge—token of a happy ending. Meanwhile, Hammond Bacon, as you will note, had been casting a critical eye over the porkers. "Life's like that," he mused, "To-day only a prize pig—to-morrow a regally mustarded ham sandwich."
