STRAND THEATRE.
The programme to bo presented to-day is headed by "The Gay Retreat," Btarring Ted McNamara and Sammy Cohen. This is a screamingly funny farce, with the most un•usual situations ever pictured. It deals with Dick Wright, played by Gene Cameron, who enlists in the ambulance corps after being turned down by other branches of the service. His chauffeur and valet also join to keep on eye on him and to prevent him from wandering into No Man's Land in his sleep. These two bodyguards are played by Ted McNamara and Sammy Cohen, who scored so sensationally as the merrymakers in "What Price Glory." Their performance in "The Gay Retreat" surpasses even their laughter-provoking acting in the great war epic. There is the Red Cross nurse, Betty Francisco, whom Dick leaves behind in his father's care, and the beautiful French girl played by Judy King, whom he meets overseas. Holmes Herbert is the father, and Charles Gorman takes the part of the bard, tough sergeant. The production for sheer entertainment is a thing not soon forgotten "The -Understanding Heart," starring Joan Crawford and Rockliffe Fellowes, episode 8 of "The Trail of the Tiger," a comedy, *- scenic, and a topical will be shown in support.
