BOXING.
♦ RACE WEEK CONTEST. The fifteen-round contest to take place at the Municipal Concert Hall on Wednesday night promises to be the best professional bout staged here this year. • Johnnie Leckie, whoso sporting successes in the ring have made him the idol of the boxing public, has been well matched with Norman Radford, of England. In the fights since his arrival Radford has proved himself to be a very nble boxer, possesed of cleverness, power, and courage, and a great contest is expected. As neither Radford nor the brilliant Leckie has appeared here before, a record house is expected to see these two boxers in action. Four attractive amateur bouts have also been arranged between local and visiting boxers:—Rains v. Scott, Brosnan v. G. Wright, Carey v. Wright,. McKane v. Barton. Several of these boys fought at the New Zealand championship tournament held recently at Auckland, and will provide excellent "preliminary bouts. The box plan is at Lange's, United Service buildings.
