SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs Chisholm (Dunedin), who has been visiting Timaru, has left for Geraldine. Mr and Mrs A. Otway, who have been the guests of Mrs Wigley (Park lane), have returned to Wellington. Mr and Mrs D. Burnett and Mr Don Burnett (Hakataramea) are visiting Timaru. Mr and Mrs J. N. Greenland (Orbell street) have returned from a visit •to San Francisco. Miss E. Culverwell, librarian at the Timaru Public Library, has returned from an extended trip to England. SPORTS AT ST. BEDE'S. BJg flags, streaming gaily from tall flagpoles, aind little flags—dozens of them —fluttering blithely on the green of the fine big playing grounds at .St. Bede's College boldly proclaimed the fact that yesterday waß sports day, the day of days for the boys at the school. In the afternoon many parents and interested friends visited the College, and greatly enjoyed the programme Vof events that was carried out with commendable dispatch. The visitors, who were received by Dr. V. Geaney, S.M., • Sector of St. Bede's, and members of his teaching staff, were hospitably entertained at tea in the large dining-room, where the boys attended courteously and assiduously to thee omfort of the guests. PLEASANT BIRTHDAY PARTY. At her borne in Winchester street, Merivale, Mrs T. Baker, with Mrs C. WEDDINGS. WOODING—EASTERBROOK. The Church of St. Anne's, Pleasant Valley, was the seen© of a very pretty wedding last week, when Freda, se<> ond daughter of Mr and Mrs A. J. Easterbrook, of Pleasant Valley, was married to Cecil, seoopd son of Mr and Mrs T. P. "Wooding, of Woodbury. Archdeacon Purchas performed the ceremony, and Mrs Douds, aunt of the bride, played the nuptial music. The church had been prettily deoorated with banksia roses, and a wedding bell was 'suspended over the' bridal coupls. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a pretty bridal frock .of cream georgette and shadow lace, and her embroidered tulle veil was held in place by pearls and orange' blossom. Her bouquet was composed of freesias, lilies of the valley, and maidenhair, fern. The bridesmaid was Miss Irene Easterbrook, wliose dainty frock was of apricot crepe de chine and gold lace, with hat to match. Her bouquet was of freesias, pink azaleas, and maidenhair fern. Little Audrey Scott j niece of the bridegroom, made a winsqme little flower girl with her cream net frock with rows of tiny frills. She wore a wreath of gold leaves in her hair and carried a posy of freesias and forget-me-nots. Mr R. Wooding attended Ifis brother as best man.. After the ceremony, a reception was held in the Pleasant Valley Hall, Mrs Easterbrook receiving the guests in a smart frock of grey repp, her hat being grey with red trimmings, and her bouquet was composed of red anemones, freesias, and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom's mother, Mrs Wooding, wore a stylish frock of navy repp and navy hat, and carried a bouquet of tulips. When the happy couple left for their wedding trip, the bride was wearing a smart frock of putty coloured crepe, de chine and lace, putty coloured hat trimmed with red, and a navy tailored coat with red. A grey fox fur completed the toilette. Mr and Mrs Cecil Wooding's future home will be at Peel Forest. SILVER WEDDING CELEBRATED
AT HORNBY. Mr and Mrs W. P. Nolan, of ' Hornby, entertained a number of friends, on the occasion of their silver wedding. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, cards, music, games, and competitions. A dainty tsupper was served in the dining-room. Mr and Mrs Nolan were the recipients of many handsome presents.
