CHINESE TO DIE.
MURDERED' ffiS WIPE. CASE TRIED IN ENGLAND. (Received October 25th, 7.15 p.m.) LONDON,'October 25. Chung Yi-Miao, a Chinese law student, was sentenced to death at Oarlisle for strangling his Chinese wife at Borrowdale during their honeymoon in the Lakes district, oh June 19th. Chung Yi-Miao heatedly protested his innocence after sentenfce had been passed, but Mr Justice Humphreys intimated \that he, believed the verdict was a right one. . , In his summing up, the Judge said it was evident that tne murderer had staged the affair. The clothes of the Woman were torn, suggesting, an outrage, but. there was no sign of any bruise on her body. He added that Miao was ail extremely clever man who always had a' ready answer. The defence suggested that two Easterners, either Chinese or Japanese, had murdered the woman in order to obtain the jewels she carried, which were worth £3OOO, the wife .being the daughter of a Chinese millionaire. The Crown, however, that no Orientals were present within three tniles of the scene of the murder. — Australian Press Association.'
