FOR MOTORS ONLY

PROPOSED NEW ROAD. ENGLISH UNDERTAKING. (beitish official (Received October 25th, 7.45 p.ni.) RUGBY, October. 24. The Brighton Town Council has signified its approval of a proposal to construct a motor road speedway between London and Brighton. All that is necessary before construction can begin is that a special Bill should be passed by Parliament and the necessary financial arrangements made. The cost or the work is estimated at £3,000,000. The object of the road is to provide direct access for the enormous traffic now passing between London and Brighton. The road is only for motortraffic. all of which will be required to pay a toll fee of varying amounts. A small motor-car, for instance, will be asked to pay about 4id for the whole journey. For motor-omnibuses 18 stops will be provided and there will be overhead footbridges for the use of inhabitants from the adjoining villages who may wish to join them. The illumination of the road by night is to be carried out by 25,000 coloured reflectors which are to be set up, at intervals of 15 yards. If, and when, it is completed, the road will be without a parallel in Europe.
