WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.
The fortnightly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the W.O.T.U. was held on Wednesday; In the absence ofJMiss Henderson, Mrs Richards presided. Apologies were received from Miss Henderson, Mesdames Price and Erwin, and Miss Whyte. Votes of sympathy were sent to Mrs J-. J. 9rownlee and Mrs McKie. - Mrs Perryman (editress of "White Ribbon") asked members' assistance to gain new subscribers.' As polling day falls on the date fixed for the next meeting, no meeting will be but it has been arranged Jul# * pjtfypj: peeling, meetings are to be held before the poll. Members were reminded of the' postal voting for the sick. As Maori Day was being celebrated, Mrs W. J. Williams, brought to the meeting two Maori girls, who are in training at the Methpdist hostel to be' Maori,, deaconesses. - One of' these girls, Misß Kirkwoqd, made an > earliest appeal to members to do their best to gain Prohibition, jthat the Maori race might be saved from the evils of the liquor traf'flc. During the afternoon the girls performed poi dances, which were much enjoyed. Afternoon tea was then I served, and the meeting closed with the I Benediction. ' 1
