NEW ACCUMULATOR.

TUNGSTONE PRODUCT. FOR MOTORS AND WIRELESS. After severe and exhaustive tests of the new Tungstone accumulator, the user will enthusiastically agree that this latest all-British accumulator marks a great step forward in the manufacture of this important unit in the equipment of the wireless enthusiast or tne motorist (says the "Daily Mail"). Of an exceedingly moderate price, this 60-volt 3 A.H. accumulator only weighs 231b It is, therefore, a particularly portable unit, and its compactness and the accessibility of all parts are equal to its lightness. At the same time it is of very strong construction, and the insulation could not bo improved upon. Users of this accumulator will find that they have no trouble from 'phone crackling, and there ai'e no sudden voltage drops. Suitable for Tropics. The accumulator is entirely satisfactory for tropical or other extreme climates-and will remain efficient for long periods without recharging. There is no self-discharge, and the accumulator can be sent overseas without acid and with the lirst nominal charge, and is then ready for work when the acid is later added by the user. The working life of the accumulator under normal conditions will be at least ten years. This tigh-tension Tungstone accumulator is contained in a neat case, made from teak, and consists of a series of glass containers, individually rubber-, insulated, and all standing on a rubber mat. Its success is due to the special feature of its design and the special scientific methods by which it is manufactured, and by the elimination of all wood or celluloid and the use only" of a pure lead-grid and oxides. Although this new series of accumulators is only now offered to the public, it would be necessary to go back at least half a century to come to the original experiments which have produced so successful an ultimate result, and before the final manufacturing organisation was put in hand for the production of these accumulators in great numbers by mass production methods they had teen uiufer the close observation of wireless /experts and motorists for a long time and had proved under the severest tests and during long periods of continuous operations that they were undoubtedly a very great step forward towards perfection in accumulator manufacture and design. Under no circumstances does the Tungstone _ high-tension accumulator give the slightest indications of crackling, nor does it produce any other extraneous noises in the headphones or loud speaker, no frothing or foaming occurs, there are no possibilities of a short circuit and the voltage drop as the accumulator is .discharged by usage is so small that it cannot be detected without an instrument. The smallness of the container, enclosing the positive and negative grid units, is an important feature. These are only 2 inches square and are guaranteed on the full charge to give 3 A.H. actual. _ The smallness of the unit required is due to the fact that the grid is, produced entirely by machinery and also because only pure lead and oxide are used. No antimonial lead and no dead or inactive materials or expanders are used of •any kind. . Perfect insulation is assured by encircling each 2-volt glass plate selfcontainer with a tightly-fitting pure rubber band, while all containers stand on a rubber mat, as referred to above. Vibration troubles or possible breakages are reduced to a minimum, and the woden box is covered with baize cloth below, so that it will not injure any polished table or furniture on which it is placed. . , .Patented Construction. Each 2-volt self container is of special patented construction, providing for particularly generous acid space and free circulation on all four sides of the plates. An ebonite lid is fixed and sealed and an ebonite vent plug, when withdrawn, is the filling aperture. A special metal filler is provided with each accumulator Jor the convenience of the purchaser. The designers of the Tungstone hightension accumulator have departed in one. detail from the general principles practised in the assembly of the low tension. The intercell connectors, made of antimonial lead { are'die cast and burned on. This is because there is no reason for plate inspection by the user. Lead burning in this instance facilitates and simplifies the practical application of the patented intercell connector tapper-off, by the use of the wander-plug supplied with ,each high tension accumulator. Tapping-off may be done at any desired 2-volt cell, or any series or groups of varying voltages, with each series .independent,, and, if necessary, simultaneous. This patented speciality gives a very fine control, so that the best degree of power economy can be obtained and recharging costs reduced accordingly. The general lay-out of the voltage, sequences of is very simple, and when working higher voltages by two or more sets of 60 volts no difficulties are met with and delicate control is assured. No selector switch is required. j j .
