SWIMMING.
NORTH CANTERBURY r CLUB. The annual meeting of the. North: Canter-, bury. Amateur Swimming Club was held 1 on Wednesday evening,' Mr Walter Johrieon siding over an attendance of seventeen members. . '" • ■ - - The second annual report since the resuscitation of the club congratulatedthe 'members on a .most successful year. Great enthusiasm had . been displayed by the active members, while the . public had. been greatly interested, and had given splendid financial support.' A number of evening carnivals had been held, and the Success of these was in large measure due to the operation of the Daylight Saving Bill and the v judicious hanV dicapping of Mr, W. Johnson and; Miss E. Wilson: The swimming and diving of a number of the members reached* a. high standard, and school children .haty been well catered for, a number showing great promise. More attention had been paid to long-idis-tance, swimming, than in , the past. - The Borough Council had again, greatly, assisted the cliib by granting the use of the bath at a low rental, and. by attending to its weekly cleaning and refilling. After thanking, those who had assisted the club in various ways, the committee concluded the report by stating that with a membership of over 100 and a sound financial position, the prospects for the coining seaison were very bright. The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting. to £77 12s lid, and.expenditure to £55 7 s 7d, leaving a balance in hand of £22 5s 4d. ' The report and balance-sheet were adopted.Officers were elected as follows:—-Patron, Dr. T. A. Will; president, Mr W. Johnson; vice-presidents, Messrs H. J. Gulliver, L. W. HaTley, A. B. Johnson, W. A. Rowse, and H. Samuels; club captain, Mr J. Cox; * vice-cap-tain, Mr D. Blake; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. A. Murdoch; auditor, Mr F. G, Tolmie; committee," Misses H. Archer alnd A. Bruere, Messrs G. K. Hawkins, H. L. Kinley, and W. C. McCracken; handicapper. Mr W. Johnson. The retiring secretary, Mr D. H. Garrett, was voted. an. honorarium of £5. ss. . It was decided to .. .communicate with the, school teaphers : .with : the having the children taught life-saving land:, drill.- . . The-question of the;formation of . life-say-, ing classes .was discussed, and- the was left to the committee to deal with. ,
