BAD ROADS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PBES3. Sir, —I quite endorse "1928'5" remarks on the condition of the "roads around Riccarton, but if he cares to come over to the Waimairi district he will see that we also have some abominable roads to travel on. One almost, thinks that the Kaituna shingle bed had been shifted over by some, of the strong winds that we had lately. The roads are simply disgraceful, and how the ratepayers suffer . this annoyance without protesting against, the carting of such an excessive amount of loose,
round sliingle on to hard surface roads by the truck load for the cars to shoot to the sides of the road I don't know. Some of it may be graded back by the motor-grader, when it. has time to gather up the remnants of the last spread. Our rates have been getting higher almost every year for the Councillors to spend, and this is one way it is done. This loose shingle is annoying to pedestrians, cyclists, horse drivers; also the motorist has to plough his way through the thickest of it. I think the idea of "1928" to get. some other advisor on this complaint of bad roads would be a wise step in this direction. —Yours, etc., . TENDER FEET. October 2oth, 1928. •
