There was a large influx of visitors yesterday on the occasion of the Gala, 400 arriving by the special train from the north, and 13S from the south, while 88 passengers boarded the inward Mt. Somers train. The races at Oamaru accounted for 42 local residents. Show Entries. The entries for this year's Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Show total IS9O, as compared with 1875 for last year. A feature of the entries is the number in the sheep and horse sections. Details of this year's entries are as follows, last year's figures being in parentheses: —Sheep (296), 410, cattle (76) 78, horses (314) 385, pigs (22) 21, dogs (31) 35, farm and dairy produce, needlework and school classes (1136) 961, total (1875) 1890. O.T.C. Oamp. The Ashburton Mounted Rifles (C.Y.C.), who have been in camp on the racecourse since Tuesday, broke barracks yesterday. The squadron, which numbered about 50, assembled on Saturday, when Brigadier M. M. Gard ner, O.C. Southern Command, presented the Lloyd Lindsay Cup to tho winners of the team competition at the last Burnham camp, Sergeant L. Butterick's team. There was a good attendance at the parade ground on Sunday, when the Gallipoli Cup, for the best squadron at the last Burnham camp, was presented to Captain A. Nicoll, by Colonel J. Findlay. The outstanding success which attended the Advance Ashburton Association's annual Gala, held on the Domain yesterday, leaves cause (for nothing but gratification, and assures an income for the Association to carry on, for a, further twelve months, its ambitious scheme for beautifying the town The organiser, Mr G. Harle, who is also president of the Association, his executive, and general secretary (Mr.G. V. Furby) are to be commended for their efforts, while the gloriously fine weather considerably assisted in the excellent results obtained. Tnere was more interest attached to the Gala this year, as it synchronised with the Jubilee celebrations of the Borough. All sections of the County were well represented, and the attendance totalled about Reaching for almost one-and-a : half miles, tlie procession left tho traffic bridge at 10 am., and headed by the Ashburton Mounted Kifles (C.Y.C.), under Captain A. J. Nicoll, proceeded up East street to the strains of music played by the Ashburton Silver, and Pipe Bands, ana made a halt in front of the station for the benefit of passengers on the southbound express. The route then covered was Walnut avenue to the Domain. The supervision was capably handled by : Messrs S. Osborne, G. Rogers, and C. <J. t Bovcc. As a whole the procession j represented the commercial and industrial life of the town and district, ana a striking comparison between the past»j and present mode of transporting chil- j dren to school was illustrated by some j enthusiasts from Lyndhurst. The decorated cars, children's bicycles, ana trade exhibits, presented a spectacular sight; On the humorous side the ban placed on the recent aeroplane visit to Ashburton on Sunday was well depicted, while the antics of a large white hen , and rooster played a prominent part in j the amusement of the crowd. Tho, side- , shows, which were particularly well organised, were the life of the carnival, and helped to keep the gathering in good spirits. A feature of this department was the party of Maoris from the Tualiiwi Pa, who gave a series of entertainments, including the ancient ceremony of roasting a bullock. At "2.20 p.m. two Glostcr Glebe aeroplanes from the Wigram Aerodrome arrived, and gave exhibitions of stunting over the Domain. Tho Ashburton Silver Band, under the baton of Mr H. Osborne, contributed a varied programme of music throughout the day. Between 3000 ana 4000 people stood around the oval all dav, watching the results of the sports which were run off well up to time.
