FRED MAYFIELD'S CANADIAN COWBOYS.

■'■■ ■ 4;», ■• ■■■-;;.' FAMOUS BAND- COMING TO

.Nobody-'can be.! wholly blamed for ignorance M he or. she imagines that the sole accomplishment,of the. good cowboy is to throw a lariat, rope a -'steer, and sit on the corral rails in the sun and smoke a cigarette. One has Zane Grey to thank for that vision, But it the good cowboy can also sing a'snappy'ditty "in'no uncertain voice; he can play a piano, and a violin with equal ease, can blow a saxophone and do funny .things on the xylophone, can draw music from tna. horn and the cornet —the good cowboy can raise such music as to set one's feet nimbly tripping to Yale Blues and the Varßity Drag. At least, that is what Fred Mayfield s Cowboys can do. Mayfield's world-famous combination of Canadian cowboys from the great ranches of the West have been booked for a season in Christchruch, and open here next Monday. They are fresh from triumphs in all the great American and Australian cities,'and have had a wonderful reception in New Zealand. In selections from the classics, in simple old melodies, but mostly in the good old swing of jazz and syncopation, Fred Mayfield's Cowboys outshine all other combinations -that have visited Christchurch, The States boast many excellent bands and orchestras, but it is admitted that, the cowboyß,from : Calgary are America's great • accumulation "tot musical talent. In between their musical items they sometimes sing 'through amplifiers, thus imparting a more personal touch. The band is composed of nine' musicians, who play in all 37 instruments. The cheery personality of Fred Mayfield goes far in making the band sucn an altogether likeable turn. It is long since Christchurch has had a chance of seeing so novel and brilliant a presentation.
