AMBULANCE BRIGADES.

COMPETITIONS AT TIMARU,

• (SPECIAL TO THB PBE88.) TIMARU, October 21. The Canterbury, <Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast districts' annual competitions of the New Zealand Section of the St. John Ambulance Brigade commenced here on Saturday night. Entries this year were a record 91 competitors taking part in the individual contests, and 21 squads from the ♦nllowine brigades competing in tho team Iventa-—Auckland, Onehunga, Wellington, Lyttelton, Ohristchurch, Tlmarn, and Duned At the Ambulance Hall, Mr W. Smith (District Superintendent) extended a wel,.nm» to the competitors. The Mayor (Mr G. J. Wallace) who ten•inred a cordial reception on behalf of the Citizens of Timaru, paid a sterling tribute to the fine work carried on by the St. John Ambulance Association. The oral home nursing and oral first aid -.-.♦ inns were then commenced. A parade was held at St. Mary's Anglican nhnrch this morning, and was attended by .bout 100 brigade members. Appropriate hymns were sung. The Rev. H. W Monaehan was the preacher. He said that the wnrds from the Collect, "Keep us, we beseech Thee, from all things that may hurt .m so that we, being ready both in body, nn'd soul, may cheerfully accomplish those {Vines that Thou wouldst.iave done." were appropriate for such a parade.
