"SCANDAL."

.The brief title, "Scandal/' is certainly no misnomer for the excitingly intriguing comedy which Mr Leon Gordon and his talented company are playing at the. Theatre Royal, but all the scenes are not laid in a bedroom, as one might almost have supposed from the preliminary notices, nor are all the women attired throughout the evening in negligee. Far from itl In the first act, Miss May Collins, /who plays the part .of' Beatrix Vanderdyke, wears a ravishing evening frock with tight satin' bodice and skirt of tulle' frills shading from palest cameo to deepest rose pink, and following the popular "peacoc-k" line—short in' front and' sweeping almost to the ground behind. At the waist was a bow of deep rose pink velvet held with diamente, and her rosy-heeled shoes were covered with shaded pink brilliants. But the piece de jresißtance was the long, transparent cape of gold net lace embossed with trails of fiat pink flowers. In the bedroom scene, Miss Collins wears a lovely soft pink nightdress With tiny lace vestee, under a georgette negligee of a deeper hue, gracefully draped and bordered .with ecru lace. When she scores her final victory in . the last she is wearing, trim business-like riding kit.. Miss " Collins .wears her shingled hair Very long apd.'„..hrrished back at'the sides to show the ears. " When. Miss.. Henrietta -. Cavendish. (Hohoria Vanderdyke) bursts unbidden and unheralded into the "Elinor Glynnish" studio, innocent of any trace of Bohemian dust or untidyness, she was wearing a beautiful frock of Pavlova mauve crepe de chine draped over handsome lace which also formed the flowing sleeves. Her wrap was of panne velvet of, the same rich shade trimmed with handsome Vandyke plastions of silver lace to match.the lining of silver tissue, and finished with r collar and hem of silver fox fur. Later she ap-: peared in a smart fur-trimmed black cqat "over-a frock of rose beige, plisse georgette, and a small black hat with diamente ornament. Miss Noel Boyd, less dashing than in her sealing-wax red outfit in "The Trial of Mary ', Dugan, '* was still ~ a striking figure' in her pretty frock of palest Hme yellow with: two tiered skirt all-over embroidered with crystal beads. When paying a .morning call on the psendorbride, she wore a smart jumper suit and cardigan of jade green crepe, de chine and close-fitting felt hat to match. ; Miss Nancy Atkins was a fascinating French maid in her short frock of black taffeta with dainty white collar and cuffs, and Miss Daphne Bairn looked as as she was meant to do, in . black velvet. ..; ;■■"• ; - -The ,; '-memorable seasdn of Mr Gordon's company, concludes to-night. s

WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN fEMPERANCE UNION. An enjoyable evening social arranged by Mrs Adkins and Miss M..M. Stephens, as held at the Union's rooms. In .the absence of Miss Henderson, Mrs Bichards presided. Miss Shaw, principal of domestic science at the Christchurch Technical School, gave an interesting and instructive address on domestic science. The speaker illustrated her lecture with, diagrams in which she said the children "took great interest. During the evening a pianoforte solo-was rendered :by - Miss M. M. Thomas, .songs by '• Mrs. Gallop, with violin obbligatos by Miss B. "Wilson. Violin solos were played by . Miss , . B. Wilson and Mr S. Elsom. .Mrs Richards proposed a vote of thanks to the speaker and to the performers. This was carried by acclamation. Supper was then served'' by the Social Committee.
