"NOTHING SECRET"
—i — THE MISSING RECTOR.' INTERVIEWED IN CANADA. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TEUCaBAPttT-COPIBIGHT.) VANCOUVER, August 26. That there was nothing secret about his visit to that his secretary and man knew where he was, and that his bishop knew he was on a holiday, were statements made at Brooks, Alberta, by the Rev. Franklin Hutchinson, who was reported mysteriously to have disappeared from England. He had no hesitation in explaining his mission and movements when it was brought to his attention that he was reported to have left his parish secretly. He told Major Fred Cross, assistant superintendent of the C.P.R. demonstration farm, that he had come to Canada to study conditions firsthand. He was making observations particularly in regard to the opportunities for young men on Canadian farms. He intimated that he intended to work on the land and harvest fields to gain experience regarding the actual situation. He proposed to remain in the Brooks district probably a month. Later he hoped to studj the methods employed at various colleges, as he was interested in educational matters. To Y.M.C.A. officials in Winnipeg he stated that it was his intention permanently to reside in Canada, and hinted that he would take an Anghcan rectory if available.—Australian Press Assocfation. ACT OF BANKRUPTCY. LONDON, August 26. Moneylenders in Manchester have tried to serve the Rev. Franklin Hutchinson with a writ for £SOO, allegedly obtained as an unsecured loan. Mr Hutchinson's departure from England without leaving an address constitutes an act of bankruptcy on which a petition could.be filed —Australian Press Association. CLERGY'S HIGH EXPENSES. (Received August 27th, 7.5 p,.m.) LONDON, August 26. The rector of a neighbouring parish, who is preaching at Doddinghurst, owing to the departure of Mr Hutchinson, referred to the latter as having eaten his heart out because he could not get the people to church in crowds. Mr Hutchinson was engaged m a struggle to make ends meet, because or the obsolete system compelling country clergy to live in expensive mansions Australian Press Association.
