Diamond regions in the States of Matto Grosse and Goyaz have been thrown into an uproar by rioting prospectors. Several towns have been loot ed, and a number of murders committed by enraged natives, who claim that they have been paid by grub-stakers in counterfeit money. The prospectors have turned bandits, and started an intensive search for the persons who cheated them with fake money. Fights have occurred between the bandits and the police and soldiers. The bandits number several hundred. One police commander and several soldiers have been killed.—Australian Press Association, United Service.
