MISS KAY'S BRILLIANCY N.Z. TEAM IN AUSTRALIA. [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, August 14. Enthusiastic over the brilliant performances of Miss 0. Kay, the nineteen-year-old Dunedin girl who astounded the Australian golfing public by winning ,- her way into the aemi-hnals of the recent Australian ladies' open golf championship, played at Rose Bay links, Sydney, two members of the New Zealand team. at the championships, Misses S. Snodgrass and M. Payton, both of Rotorua, arrived in Auckland this'morning by. the ifarama from, Sydney. Miss Kay. and two other members of the party of five, Mrs Shailer Weston, of Wellington', and Miss M. Stevens, of Otago, are - 'still in the Commonwealth. With tho li.G.U. bogey for -championships Axed at 76, Miss Kay twice did a round in 77, and established a fresh record for the Rose Bay links. In her first match she did 38 out and 39 in, and in her second 37 and 40 respectively. This, ■■■; according to Miss Payton, showed that the .New Zealand girl could knock.;.bogey to..pieces if only she could strike consistency- both' ways. Like her. initials,: the Australians' said that Miss Kay's golf, was O.K.', but it took some time fdr her to find her]feet. The Dunedin girl .was the., star member of the team, and played well right through- the piece. Tho others, however, • were troubled by tho fiery greens, and "could not strike form. "We found the light very trying and deceptive, "' explained Miss Payton, "and owing to the fast nature -of the greens could not putt "with any degree of: courage." :'. yYes,' the putting- greens-were- like .nil*; Hard ' tables'," ' supplemented Miss Snodgrass. The Australians, 'she added, were pleased that New Zealand was represented at the .championships, and treated ...them all most "During the .course, of. her matches Miss" Kay had met Mrs Slack, a former New Zealand playor, and beaten her 6 up and 5. The same day (she recorded . 77- for-- a-iourid; ::.' -Miss- -Mona McLeod,'- who ultimately defeated her, had a L.G.TJ. handicap, of 2, and had twice carried off the championshiphonours ..with. her, ,y.ery. .finished, style, of .play..:
