ASHBURTON. DRUIDS' LODGE. At the last meeting of the Star of Ashburton Lodge, U.A.0.D., Bro. G. H. Dyer presided over a fair attendance. One new member was initiated. A motion of sympathy was passed with the Spicer family in their recent bereavement. Change in Weather. An appreciable change from the dry weather of the previous few weeks was experienced on Monday night, when a drbzling rain commenced to fall and increased in intensity before daybreak. The rain continued intermittently throughout yesterday and in the evening showed no sign of abating. Twelve points were registered up to 9 a.m. yesterday.
Inter-School Sports. The seating capacity of the Theatre Royal was taxed to ita fullest last evening, when a concert, in aid of tne motor mower fund was given by pupils of the Ashburton High School. The staff was responsible for the organisation, and they are to be complimented upon their effort. A varied and attractive programme was submitted to an enthusiastic audience. The peiformance will be repeated to-night. METHVEN. iThere-was a good attendance of members at the weekly shoot of the Miniature Rifle Club. A trophy presented by Mr H. E. Jessen was competed for in conjunction with the; Club Cup. Both were won by G. Waddmgton with scores of 39 (2) 39, q the run-ner-up being C. Jessep, .88 (4) »*■ There was keen competition for the "hotty button," H. Noble being f tbo winner with scores of 88, 39. The best scores in the Wilding Cup competition were: H. Noble 39, J. E. Carr '39, G. Waddington 39', S. Hyland 88, C. Topp 38, R. L, Haskott 38, W. M. Holland 37, F. Canter 37, W. Jnckson 35, and C. Diebert 35.
MOUNT SOMERS. Those present at the monthly. meeting of the Mt. Somere Road Board were: Messrs G. A. Bland (actingchairman), E..J. Waugh, A. B. Lockhead, and T. Bright. A vote of sympathy was to tho chairman (Mr ■J.«-R. Lockhard), who is in hospital. Mr Btarid reported that the contract on the gtour Village Settlement road had,been completed satisfactorily. It was decided to clear 1 the cuttings and. approaches. on the Gorge road between Miln's cutting and Haketere, and to call tenders for the shingling of 105 : chains on the Gorge road. The clerk was instructed to serve notices'to clear gorge along road frontages to all; property owners.
