PAPANUI BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Papanui branch of the W.C.T.U. was held in the Presbyterian Bible Class room, Mrs Simpson presiding over a good attendants.

A letter was read from the New Zealand superintendent of the' Anti-Gam-bling League urging all interested to put forward every effort to suppress the growing facilities for gambling. On the recommendation of .Mids Henderson, .Dominion secretary, it was decided to purchase temperance charts to be' hung up in the schools. Mesdames Smith and Bond were appointed delegates to attend the district convention Jo be held in Christchurch next month. It was arranged for the W.C.T.U. to provide the programme for the Band of Hope next month; and it was decided to ask a lady speaker to address the gathering.. A collection in aid °f the campaign resulted in the sum or fifteen shillings being handed in.
