PULVERISED COAL.

A CANADIAN EXPERIMENT.

.I An interesting experiment m. regard to the use of pulverised coal for fuel in steamers is being undertaken by the Dominion Shipping. Company, a Canadian- firm. The steamer Lingan, of 800 tons,-which has been .engaged in the coal trade between Sydney (Nova Scotia)/and Montreal, is equipped with pulverised fuel-burning apparatus at the. Halifax shipyards, and in shipping circles the undertaking is considered to be of great importance. - The fitting of the steamer with pulverisers, distributors, and burners to utilise powdered coal is reported to be the first- installation of the- kind by a private shipping firm 'in the "Empire. It is not unlikely that a similar experiment will be made with an Australian coastal steamer m the near future.
