A fourteen-roomed, two-storeyed residence at owned by John James and occupied by Herbert Watts, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The insurance on the building was £650 in the Phoenix office. The furniture was uninsured. At 5 a.m. a two-storeyed shop and dwelling in Ellice street was badly damaged. The occupier, Patrick Cunningham, had his stock and fittings insured for £4OO in the London *and Lancashire office, and his furniture for £2OO in the . same office. TWO GOOD "SAVES." (PKESS ASSOCIATION TELEGHAM.) THAMES, July 30. There were two fires during the week-end. On Sunday morning an outbreak gutted tae shop of James Hogg, tobacconist, Pollen street; also damaging C. S. Donovan's dental rooms on the south side. The insurances were:—Hogg's, £SOO on the building in the State office, the stock, being covered for £250 in the EpyaL The Donovan buildings were insured for £9OO, and the contents for £220 in the State office. This morning the residence of Mrs S. Levien, Pollen street, had one room gutted and others badly smoked. The insurance on the building was £250 and the furniture £225, in the Eagle Star office: The brigade made excellent saves both times, as a strong easterly gale was raging.Are YOD adequately insured? In the event of certain reports .coming to haud by the mail due at Auckland to-day a special meeting of the Waimakariri River Trust will be held on August 7th.
