COOKS' DISPUTE.
STILL UNSETTLED. NO VESSELS BEING MANNED. (UXITED PEE 33 ASSOCIATION—B* ELECTBIC TZLEGBAPH- COPTRIGHT.) (Received June 21st, 10.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 21. The latest hitch in the cooks' dispute is still unsettled. The shipowners, at a special meeting at Melbourne, decided to advise Mr J, Tudehope, secretary of the Cooks' Union, that his telegram was unsatisfactory, and was a distinct breach of the terms of settlement of the dispute. In the meantime, until an adjustment has been arrived at, the manning of all vessels is to cease.—Australian Press Association.
[The telegram referred to was sent by Mr Tudehope to the shipowners at Melbourne, pointing out that the terms of settlement for the cooks' strike provided for picking-up places at the union's rooms, and that there was a strong feeling against the Barwon which arrived at Sydney without cooks. The_ Cooks' Union refused, previously, to sign on for the Barwon, and when it was later decided to supply men the owners did not make a call.]
