Nordstrom, Tinwald, dislocated an elbow through falling from a see-eaw and was admitted to the County Hospital. 11 Basketball Club Dance. j A dance organised by the Technical Old Girls' Basketball Club was held in j the Technical School Assembly Hall 1 when there was an attendance of about * 50 couples. The music was provided by Mrs H. J. Chapman and Mr E. Dabourn. i Extras were played by Mr J. Tilley. * Interesting Becords. i A large number of interesting records have been gathered sealed in a copper box and deposited in one of the comer posts of the Ashburton War Memorial. They include a volume containing the names, next of kin, and particulars of t men from Ashburton, who lost their j lives in the Great War, the roll of t honour of all New Zealanders who made j the supreme sacrifice, a Bible, the Proclamation of Peace, a history of Ashburton, the County Council Jubilee booklet, A. and P. Association Jubilee catalogue, a High School magazine, history of the Technical School, a Maori souvenir of New Zealand, souvenirs j of the Presbyterian, Methodist, j and Baptißt Churches, samples of wheat , and wool. The parcel waa sealed with the Borough seal and signed by the Mayor (Mr E. Galbraith), and Borough officers.

Bankrupt Farmer. A deficiency of £2802 0a 4d was revealed by the statement of George Stephenson Chapman, farmer, of Willowby, whose bankruptcy was investigated by the Official Assignee (Mr C. 0. Pratt) yesterday. The only asset was furniture valued at £4O. The unsecured creditors were: Bennett and Walls £33 12s 9d, N. H. Griffith £9 4s, A. S. Paterson and Co., Ltd., £52 3s 7d, Hugh Holland £lO6, N.Z. Farmers' Co-op., £264. The sworn statement of bankrupt stated that he Btarted farming in 1916 when he leased 656 acres from his father,' taking over the property with all encumbrances at £l4 10s per acre in 1920. The slump in 1921 reduced the value of hiß stock and "land, so that eventually he had no equity in it. In 1925 he leased a property in the hope of recovering but was compelled to abandon the farm to the mortgagee. "The Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., his largest creditor, had been very fair. He was married with three children, one of whom was eight years old and had never walked. Mr V. W. Eussell represented the bankrupt./ In the absence of a quorum, bankrupt was examined in camera by the Official Assignee, this being the first occasion in Ashburton that Section 92 of the Bankruptcy Act has been enforced. The third session of the Dixieland Carnival held last evening was attended by a large crowd, the chief attraction being the opening of the tug-of-war competition. The dance floor was well patronised,, the music being supplied by Mrs A. Mitchell's Orchestra. In addition to items by the Ashburton Silver Band, a banjo selection was given by Mr J. Morris, and solo dances by Miss T. Harper. The tug-of-war competition resulted as follows:—Light-weight: Silver Band beat Miniature Rifles. Heavy-weight: Eiffelton beat Brickyard Boys; Rakaia beat Hakatere.
