CYCLING.

NORTH CANTERBURY CENTRE. A meeting of the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held last night. In the absence of the president, Mr W. J. Walter, through sickness, Mr J.- M. Coffey presided.' Others present were: Messrs C. Stuart, J. H. Parsons, J. Fitzpatrick, W. Cole, L. Power, W. Scott, G. Henderson, C. M. Kavanagh, T. P. O'Rourke, P. C. Vaughan, G. D. Wheeler, W. C. Miller, and P. C. Lucas (secretary). The newly-formed Clarkeville Cycling Club was granted affiliation and the delegate, Mr F. C. Vaughan, welcomed to the Centre meeting. A permit was granted to the Christchurch Athletic and Cycling Club for an open road race to be held on June 30th. An application for a 100 miles road race to be held on September around the Ashley and Waimakariri Gorges, to be known as the South Island championship was deferred until the next meeting of the Centre. It was decided to take part in the Jubilee celebration procession to be held on May 28th. ' The Kowai Athletic Sports Club WTote stating that at a special meeting of the club held on May sth, the following motion was unanimously carried. "That this club finds W. Mackie and W. T. Weir guilty of foul riding during the five miles Kowai wheel race, held at Sefton on Monday, April 9th, and imposes a fine of £1 each, with the recommendation that tlie above-mentioned riders be severely dealt with by the Centre." After considerable discussion it was decided to endorse the Kowai Club's action in fining the riders. W. T. Weir attended and expressed regret for his action. It was decided to disqualify Mackie and Weir until July 31st. The question of holding the Timaru to Christchurch road race was discussed, and a resolution was passed that the race be held as usual this year, the exact date to be fixed later.
