NORTH CANTERBURY.

RANGIORA. The Northern A. and P. Association's sub-committee met yesterday and arranged the following programme for the field day on 2oth inst.: —Leave the hall at 8 a.m. and inspect the various winning plots and also the Eyre -lliver diversion. The annual meeting will be held on the same, evening. The following have been elected unopposed President, Mr T. S. Hanna; vice-presi-dents, Messrs R. Peach and R. Macdonald; treasurer, Mr W. Mackenzie. The Rangiora High School Board of Governors met on' Tuesday, Mr C. 1Jennings presiding. The cnairman reported that 253 1-3 bushels of peas had been threshed off seven acres of the school farm. The Department had granted a subsidy of £7O on voluntary contributions received by the Board. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £146 16s fld. At the annual meeting Mr C. I. Jennings was reelected chairman. The Rev. W. R. Hutchison was appointed deputy-chair-man. CHEVIOT. Advice has been received that the arrangements for the consolidation of the Domett School with the Mackenzie School have been completed and consolidation will take effect from the reopening of the Mackenzie School next week. Mr F. Piute has been successful in securing the contract for the conveyance of the Domett children to the Mackenzie School. There was a. good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Cheviot Band of Hope. Items wore contributed by Misses M. Truman, D. Truman," K. Clifford, E. Fraser, M. Orchard, M. Drummond, K. Davidson, G. Morgan, Messrs R. J. Truman, A. Webster, G. Orchard, and Mrs F. Flute.- Readings were given by Mesdames L. Cone and S. B. Clifford, and short addresses by the Revs. G. Widdup and G. B. Jardine. A surprise party visited the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Petrie, Domett, and a very pleasant evening was spent with games, musical items, and competitions. OKAIN'S BAY. The subscription. fee was fixed at 2s 6d. The secretary was instructed to make enquiries regarding insurance of players. At the monthly meeting of directors of the Okain's Bay Co-op. Dairy Factory Company, Ltd., Mr A. Ericksen,,

herd-testing official, who has been reengaged for next season, waited on the meeting regarding the maintenance of the herd-testing utensils, and,. it, was decided to have the buckets re,tinned. The secretary reported that the season's output would be approximately 300 tons; that the factory was at present handling more milk daily than in any previous year, and, provided the weather remained favourable, the factory would not close ■ down for some time, making this the longest season on record. Shipping statements and grade rates were considered very satisfactory. One shipment of 480 crates had realised 995. SOUTHBRIDGE Mr A. P. Watson, who has been transferred to the relieving staff after serving for about three years as assistant stationmaster at Southbridge; was entertained at a smoke concert by the railway staffs at Southbridge and Leeston, and by.representative farmers and others with whom he has been brought into close touch as a railway officer Mr W. J. Kemp, stationmaster, presided. On behalf of his fellow railway employees and a number of residents, the chairman handed to Mr Watson a silver watch for himself and a silver hot water jug for Mrs Watson. Members of the Tennis Club made a presentation to Mr Watson of a leather suitcase. At a meeting of the Southbridge School Old Pupils' Committee, amended designs for a Roll of Honour werfe received, and one was accepted. This is to be erected to replace the board destroyed when the old school was burnt. PREBBLETON. An outdoor gathering organised by members of the Tennis Club and their friends was held in the vicarage grounds. Stallholders did a brisk business, and most of them were quite sold out at the end of the afternoon. Several competitions were decided, the results being as follows: —Pig No. 1, Mr S. McNally: pig No. 2, Mr H. Prebble; roosters, Mr J. Smith; onions, Mr J. Anderson; candle-lighting—ladies, Mrs G. Millar, men, Mr J. W. Kingan. A number of young folk also enjoyed dancing during the evening, the music, for which, was provided by Misses Alys Jones and Doreen Smith, and Messrs B. and J. Longstaffe.
