DEATH BY DROWNING.

THE LATE MISS H. PACKER.

The inquest concerning the death of Hannah Packer was held before the Coroner, Mr E. D.-Mosley, on Saturday morning. Clara Packer, sister of deceased, cave evidence of identification. Deceased was a single woman she said, 60 years of age last birthday. She and deceased had lived together at 2G Cranmer square. She last saw her sister alive at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday. Deceased went to bed very early on that night, feeling tired and weary, tion for goitre four weeks previously. She had given no indications of intention to take her own life. Witness said deceased was the' last person she would h'ave expected to do such a thing. She had had it on her mind that she was suffering from an incurable disease. Witness said that there was no foundation for this. On the following morning witness missed her sister from th-i house about 6.40. She found a note on the hall table. Witness identified the note, which was produced, and stated that it was in her sister's handwriting. Constable Henderson, New Brighton, said that at midday on April 13th he received a telephone message to the effect that there was a body on the beach. There were no marks of violence on the body. From the amount of sand in the clothing, the body must have been in the sea for some time. '•Deceased met her death on or about April 13th. 1928. Death was due to suicide by drowning while in a state of severe mental depression," was the verdict of the Coroner. "'No doubt deceased was suffering from the aftereffects of the operation for goitre," he added.

INQUEST ADJOURNED

Formal evidence of identification was given by Thomas Robert Arthur Meaclem, husband of deceased, at the inquest', before the Coroner, Mr E. D. Mosloy, into the death of Agues Greta Menclem, who died on April 13th. ■ The inquest was adjourned sine die.
