RAID ON PEAS.

WILD DUCKS HAVE FEAST. Most farmers of tho Ellesmere district have had plenty of experience of the damage done to their crops by sparrows and other small birds, but tho experience of Mr W. Patterson, a Lakeside farmer, this season is very unusual. . . Mr Patterson grew a crop of peas which were exceptionally late in ripening. Before he could get to work with the mower tho wild ducks at Lake Ellesmere discovered the crop. Apparently good news spreads just as quickly in the duck world as it does amongst luunan beings, for during the recent moonlight nights the ducks descended upon the crop in hundreds, devouring a, considerable quantity of the peas and trampling over the crop in such a way as to make cutting a very difficult matter.
