School Committee. Great interest is being evinced in the forthcoming election of a committee for the District High School. The nominations close on Mondrfv next. Life Saving. For the Sumner Life-Saving Club the past season has been one of the most successful experienced for years. The members have not been over-suc-cessful in the various competitions, but a keen interest has been taken in all of them, which shows that a new club spirit has arisen. Another -factor in the club's success has been the enthusiasm of the lady members. Not only huve they assisted in the running of tlicclub, but they have shown grea'- activity in life saving work itself. Their pluck demonstrated in the rgughest of seas has been admired by hundreds of people, and to their already long pluck demonstrated in the roughest of seas has been admired by hundreds of people, and to their already long list of achievements they have added another, the winning of the Monica Thacker Shield for the ladies' life-sav-ing championship of Canterbury.
Chrysanthemum Show. The annual Chrysanthemum and Variety Show of the Sumner Presbyterian Church will be held in the Town Hall next month. The following are the judges and stallholders. Judges—Cut flowers, pot plants, decorative, fruit and vegetables: Messrs R. Nairn and F. A. Jones; cooking and preserves: Mr F. G. Norton; work stall: Mesdames Hampton, Cook, and Langdale; produce: Mesdames Duggan and Longuet, and Mr Duggan; sweet 9 and cakes: Senior Girls' Bible Class; bran tub: Junior Girls' Bible Class; aprons: Mesdames Smith and Topping; gentlemen's stall: Mrs Mitchell; work, fancy goods, cakes: Redeliffs Ladies' Guild; afternoon tea: Mesdames Browne, Jackson, Sherrard, and Miss McNaught; class stewards: Mrs S. Sherrard, Messrs Cunningham, Moore, Topping, S. Sherrard, Jackßon, Tait, and the Rev. W. McAra.
Golf. The ladies of the Richmond Hill Club held their first match of the season 011 Thursday last, when a bogey competition was played. The following were the results: —Mrs 6. Gosset (27) 1 up; Mrs P. J. Glaekin (17) 1 down; Miss M.- McClatehie (36) 4 down; Mrs C. H. Hamilton (17) 7 down; Mrs J. Wilson (36) 7 down.
Presbyterian Church. Sunday School anniversary services in connexion with the Sumner Presbyterian Church will be held to-morrow. Special music will be contributed by the children's choir, and the preachers will be the Rev. W. McAra, in the morning and afternoon, and the Rev. J. C. Jacobson, of St. George's Church, Lin wood, in the evening. Rifle Club. The annual general meeting of the members of the Sumner-Redclififs Men's Miniature Rifle Club was held this weelt, Mr G. Hines occupying the chair. The annual report and balance-sheet which were adopted, showed that the club had had a good year, and that the finances were in a satisfactory condition. Tha election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. H. Nichdlson, Mayor; president, Mr G. Hines; vicepresidents, Messrs W. S. Wharton, C. M. Roswell, J. D. Edmonds, H. Rowe, A. Falconer, G.
