PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO ?HS PHSBJ • . GREYMOUTH, April 13. Dr. J. W. Mcßrearty is confined to his room through illness. His medical adviser has ordered him complete rest. Captain P. C. Ross and Mrs Ross have returned from Christ-church. Mr H. St. A. Murray (Christchurch) is visiting Hokitika. Mr N. B. McCallum, Greymouth manager for Dalgety and Company, Ltd., has returned from Christchurch and Dunedin.
His Lordship Bishop Brodie arrived from Christchurch this afternoon. He will leave for Ross to-morrow on a formal visitation of the parish Mr C.- A. Allan, technical adviser to ihe Health Department, is visiting Greymouth. A double wedding wad celebrated at St. John's Church, Westport, on Tuesday, by the Bev. J. A. Jermyn. The contracting parties were Mr Herbert John Ferguson, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. Ferguson, of Carter's Junction, to Millicent May Gertrude Smith, eldest daughter of Mrs Bea, and the late Mr Smith, of Cope Foulwind, and Mr Frederick Donaldson, of Westport, to Vera Alice, younger daughter of Mrs Kea and the late Mr Smith, of Capo Foulwind. Tunnel Traffic. Goods traffic railed from the West Coast through the Otira tunnel this week totals 7347 tons, as compared with 715S tons for the corresponding period last year. The Weather. Squally conditions were erperienced at Greymouth to-day, with heavy showers in the . earlier part of / thG evening. The rain ceased at 8 o'clock, but a fierce westerly gale is raging.
Eainbow Trout. Yesterday a consignment of one thousand rainbow trout sprats were received from the .Christchurch _ Hatcheries by the Grey District Acclimatisation Society, ana weie placed in the Lake Ryan sanctuary. ' It is the Society's intention to libera,te them nest season in the upper reaches of tl»e Grey river. A further consignment of one thousand young rainbow is expected next Tuesday. These will be liberated in Crooked river, whence it is hoped they will make .their way to Lake Brunner. t ;
Copland Track. The. Minister for Public Works has advised Mr T. E. Y: Seddon, M.P., that lie is' looking into the matter of granting £2OO, suggested by the member for Wpstland, for clearing and improving the Copland track, South Westland. Westport Bar. The recent light freshets in the Bi' 1 - ler river have caused further shoalkg on the bar. Owing to the bad weather there is a good lift on the bar, with a »result that shipping is held up until conditions improve. Fort of Greymouth. Owing to heavy seas running on the bar, shipping movements at Greyfnouth .aro at a standstill. The Putiki, from Wellington, arrived in the roadstead yesterday morning, and is awaiting a 'favourable opportunity to enter the port to load coal for Gisborne. The Kaimai, from Wellington, is also in the roadstead. She is to load 'timber for Wellington. The depth on the Grey bar at high water to-day was only-13ft, indicating that the increased volume of .water in tho Grey river from the re-, cant heavy rains has not made any impression on the. obstruction in the channel. The Blackball mine has not worked during the current week. The. James and Liverpool"State mines worked on four days, but neither of the mines will be working on Monday.
