RANGIORA. | The monthly meeting of the Rangiora County Council w»3 held yesterday. Piesent: Messrs W. Stalker (chairman), H. Tallott, R. Macdonald, G. Cry sell, M. C. Ormandy, A. Mcintosh, and J. Brosnan. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £722 Ga 2d. The electrical engineer reported that 113 hcuis of bis time had been spent in the Eangiora Borough and S3 hours in the county. Two now consumers were connected during the month and four consumers had additional lighting and heating points installed. The work of extending the high tension wire along the West Belt had been rompleted. It was decided to accept the invitation of the returned soldiers to participate in the Anzac parade. The Waimakariri Kiver Trust wrote that the approach to the tanks on the Swannanoa road would be built up as soon as convenient Mr H. Uru wrote stating that he would let the Council have sufficient land for rounding a corner provided it wiped off his electric light account and all expenses attached thereto. At the request of the chairman, the matter was held over for the present. In reply to a request from Mr T. A. Prior for & rebate of the 10 per cent imposed for the non-payment of rates, the Council stated' it had no authority to do so. The Church Property Trustees wrote suggesting that the Council eonfer with the Waimakariri River Trust with a view to having the rivor Cam cleared of willows and mud. The matter was left in the hands of the Council foreman to arrange. It was decided to accept the invitation of the Christchurch City Council to its jubilee celebrations. The Medical Officor of Health wrote regarding the administration of the health regulations. It wal decided to adopt regulations for the county It was decided not to accede to the request of the Defence Department to reduce the charges for \work done at the recent camp on the Show Grounds.
Permission was granted to the Waikuku Beach Improvement Association to erect a sluice gate a few chains from the Waikuku bridge. Tho Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington, WTote that the request for a post office at Cust could not be favourably considered at present. The Hon. Mr Buddo, M.P., also wrote in connexion with the matter. The olerk wbb instructed to write to Mr Buddo informing him that land was purchased at Cust for a post office building and that a Bum was placed on the estimates for the erection of an office about two years ago. The objection of Mr T. A. Bayliss to the olosing of a road at Cuat_ was referred i to a sub-committee to interview Mr BayliM. A request was received from the Cust Football Club for lighting the football ground. The matter waß referred to the electrical engineer. It was decided to call for tenders for shingling Banfield's road, also to o&ll for tenders for the cleaning of drains. It was decided to grant a refund of £lO to Mr Shilton for land purchased from the Council.
