NORTHERN A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
♦: MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The committee of the Northern A. and P. Association met at Rangiora yesterday. Mr C. Mcintosh presiding. The chairman referred to tho lots suffered by Mr E, D. R. Smith In the death of Ills wife, and a motion of sympathy was passed. Mr J. D. Kalaugher, secretory to the NewZealand Friesian Association, wrote Htatiug that he had forwarded to Mr G, H. Tlasiall, of Kaiapol, the gold medal -won by him for most points in the Friesian section at the last show. The Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wrote asking the Association to disallow the exhibition of deformed animals. The lettor was received. Mr J. W. Hndfleld, Instructor in Agriculture, wrote that' his Department would be .pleased to arrange for an officer to judge the fiolds roots competition to be held in May. The secretary of the Rangiora branch of the Farmers' Union wrote enclosing a cheque for £1 towards the Association's funds. The donation was accepted with thanks. Mr F. Fawson, business agent of the New Zealand railways, wrote in reference to the visit of the Canterbury, farmers to Southland on March 26th to Slst, stating that mum elaborate arrangements were being made (or the entertainment of the visiting farmers at Invorcargill, including it visit to Stewart Island The chairman sold it was most unfortunate that the excursion was arranged for on the day of the Oxford ewe fair. It was decided to write to tho Railway Department, explaining tho position, and pointing out.that a large number of farmers desired to attend the Oxford ewe fair, and asking that any of tKese wishing to join in the trip should be allowed to make the journey the day after. Tho Royal Agricultural Society, .forwarded for consideration a set oi rules drawn v\> governing side-showß. The chairman said they could not' support the whole of the recommendations as they were not applicable to the Association. After discussion, a sub-committee was set up to go into the matter and forward a reply. Mr J. Waller, caretaker, and the secretary submitted a report on the state of the grounds, which had been left in a very unsatisfactory condition after the recent military camp. It was decided to write to the military authorities in reference to the matter. Complaint was made of the damage done t» the young trees in the Association's ground in the Ashley river-bed by a fire which had started in the borough dump. It was decided to write to the Borough Council, asking that the damage to the trees be mado good. The chairman reported that entries for the roots competition were not coming in »ery freely, and the offers of special prizes were also very slow. Tho nomination of Mr J. Nielson as a ne« member was accepted. The statement of receipts and expenditure since last meeting was received. The receipt* were £4B 19s 6d, expenditure £57 15b Bd, and bank debit balance £lO5 6s 7d The chairman gave notice that he would move at the next meeting: "That the North ern A. and P. Association is not in favour of Mr Sidey's Summer Time Act, and atrongly objects to it being placed on tho Statu''. Book."
