ARBITRATION ACT.

ATTITUDE OF FARMERS' UNION. [THE PBESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, March 13. "The New Zealand Fanners' Union is not in favour of abolishing the Arbitration Court at present, as it fears that industrial chaos may ensue," declares a review of the present position of the Arbitration Court which has been issued by the Farmers' Union. At the same time the following amendments of the Act are demanded by the Union:—The penalty for the breach of the "preference to unionists" clause should be made effective, third parties substantially interested in any dispute, such as primary producers in the freezing industry dispute, should be given the right to appear • before the Court, the ability of an industry to bear an award should be taken into consideration, the principle of piecework should be adopted wherever possible, farmers and those engaged in related occupations which are subject to the prices realised on the world's markets should receive exemption from Arbitration Court awards.
