THE NETTING OF QUINNAT.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —May I trespass upon your valuable columns in the interests of anglers of quinnat salmon? On my way from Taranaki on a holiday I was very kindly invited to accompany some friends (anglers, like myself) to the Waimakariri fishing camp at Stewart's Gully. On Sunday I accompanied them to the camp, and to my surprise saw what would not be permitted anyr where in the North Island, viz., three boats equipped for fishing with nets, two men in each boat, and drawing from six to ten fish each haul. I feel sure that the' society cannot be aware of the extent of the slaughter, which will speedily spoil legitimate fishing for so many anglers who have spent considerable sums 'of money in building suitable houses and huts. As I am only a visitor, perhaps some of the local anglers will take this matter up before further damage is done. — Yours, etc., ■•■.-,.• ■-* '■■; A.''BROWN. March 13th, 1928.
