LONDON, March 3.
The "Daily Express's" Cairo correspondent states that Sarwat Pasha, Minister for Foreign Affairs, has notified Lord Lloyd (British High Commissioner) that the Egyptian Government has decided that no agreement is possible on the lines indicated by Britain. NEUTRAL COMMENT. PARIS, March 2. The newspaper comment on the Egyptian situation is generally neutral. The "Gaulois" says: "Egypt, which is faithful to French culture, has all our sympathies, but our friendship cannot make us lose sight of the close solidarity of the interests of France and Britain. Both are compelled to safeguard the Suez Canal." [The native newspapers in Cairo state that the following are the chief points in the proposed new BritishEgyptian Treaty:—(l) British troops continue to be. stationed in the canal zone. (2) Aerodromes remain in British hands. (3) Egypt's foreign affairs continue to be conducted under British supervision. (4) The Sudan condominium continues under the BritishEgyptian Governments, pending a new special treaty.]
