CIVIC AFFAIRS.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING TO-NIGHT. Amongst the correspondence to come before to-night's ordinary meeting of the City Council will be a letter from the secretary of the Summertime Appreciation Committee suggesting that it will be necessary to give Mr T. K. Sidey, -vi.P., support when he reintroduces the measure in Parliament next session.

The chairman of the Museum Committee, Department of Internal Affairs, has written asking if war trophies are being utilised and cared for, and whether there is any possibility ot any being made available for past unsuccessful and future applicants. Owing to the Mayor having lost liis seat on the Fire Board, on account of absence from two consecutive meetings, the Council will be asked to appoint a representative on the Board. Several remits for the Municipal Conference, to bo submitted by the liiccarton Borough Council, relating to main highways and the term of office of Mayor, will be before the Council, which will be asked to support them.

The Concert Hall Committee is reporting that the official opening will take place on the 9th inst. A motion will be submitted regarding applying to the Local Government Loans Board for authority to raise a loan of £220.000 for the reconstruction of certain City strets, and a proposal for the reconstruction of portions of Lincoln road and Oxford terrace with bituminous concrete will bo discussed.

A proposed resolution respecting a loan for a refuse masticator will be brought forward, and the question of the disposal of a portion of the City's refuse in Smart's Pond will be discussed.

Other matters include: The erection of a tramway shelter in Ferry road, improvements to the clock in the Clock Tower, and Cr. Roberts's notice of motion with reference to war trophies.
