AUSTRALIAN LOAN.
£8,000,000 UNDERWRITTEN. (BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYHIOHT.j (AUSTRALIAN AND H.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, March 2. The Commonwealth of Australia has underwritten an £8,000,000 lo; n, carrying 5 per cent., issued at £9B, and repayable 1945-75, The loan came as a great surprise to the Stock Exchange, but it was not altogether unwelcome, as it is generally assumed this is the issue that had been reported as likely to bo placed in New York. The prospectus says the loan is issued by the Commonwealth on behalf of itself and the States of New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland. The proceeds vrill be used for developmental -works, the settlement of migrants from Britain, and the redemption of securities.
