WAIMATE.

FRUIT SEASON. The raspberry season in Waimate will be brought to an abrupt conclusion unless, rain falls shortly, according to a local grower. The fruit is being burnt Up for lack of sufficient moisture, and the berries, unless this want is supplied, will soon be so small as to be hardly worth picking. Personal Mr d'A, S. Grut has returned fo Waimate, after spending a few days in Dunedin. The Misses McLean, who have been staying in Timaru for some days, have returned to Waimate. Canon and Mrs P. J. Cocks returned home on Thursday after a holiday at Christchurch and the Kakaia Huts. Mr and Mrs H. Smith and family will leave Waimate this week, to take up their residence at Biccarton, Christchurch. Mr and Mrs J. Bird havo returned to Waimate after a holiday in Christchurch. Miss Marion Costcllo, daughter of Mr Edward Costello, late of the Waimate Hotel, and now of Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs H. Smith, High street. Canon T. A. Hamilton, who took the services at St. Augustine's Church during Canon's Cock's absence on holiday,, returned to Christchurch during tlie week. The Rev. J. H. Haslam and Mr K. Kippenbcrger returned on Thursday from a very enjoyable motoring trip to the Franz Josef Glacier. Mr Victor Perry, accompanied by Mrs Perry, has returned to Dunedin after spending a holiday in Waimate. The management and staff of the Arcadia Theatre made a presentation to Miss Myrtle Smith, prior to her departure from Waimate. The manager, Mr J. J. Healey, in asking Miss Smith's acceptance of a beautiful crystal rose bowl as a token of the esteem in which she had been held during her eight years' term, as cashier at the theatre, spoke of the happy relationships which had always existed, and of her good work.
