CHILD SEVERELY INJURED.
KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR. Through being knocked down on Saturday evening by a motor-car driven by Mrs Jessie McDougall, 52 Dudley street, Richmond, a 10-year-old girl, Marjorie Newton, residing with her parents at 391 Wilson's road, suffered severo internal injuries, abrasions, and severe shock, and now lies in the Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
In a statement the driver of the car said she was driving along Wilson's road about 7.30 on Saturday evening when' a little girl rushed on to the road from the footpath, hesitated, and then went on to cross the street. Through the girl hesitating the driver swung the car to the right in a desperate effort to avoid her, but when she continued across the street the left side of the car struck her. An eye-witness corroborates the driver's story with the exception that he states the back wheel ran over the child's body.
