"CRADLE SNATCHERS."
A DIVERTING RECREATION. AT EVERYBODY'S.- TO-DAY. "Cradle Snatchers," as a (tags play, had the appreciative ones of tins City in wild hilarity a few weeks ago; it was a splendid opening for the uplifted and nobis souls of the world to raise pious hands at our unashamed candour and freedom of speech; at the most, it was immensely clever, quite truthful, and genuinely witty. i£ a little finely-drawn on occasion. Now "Cradle Snatchers'' comes to the screen, infinitely more amusing, with suappier tempo and better acting. To even the uninitiated it is obvious that the tempo and the acting might ouito easily bo improved upon in this later version, but some may disbelieve its brighter comedy' propensities. But even so, the film is clever. The philandering husbands philander a bit more and better than their staee confreres; their wives get into their stride with keener vim; Ike tho Israelite, Oscar the Swede, and Joso Vallcio, the Palpitating Spaniard are all painted with a bolder brush; if the uplifters don't like the prospect of sitting out a screening of three middle-aged women teaching their wandering spouses n lesson in Swedish drill or the growing of Spanish onions, they know what to do. There are one or two sparkling scenes inserted into the picture that the play left out; very funny scones, a bit more American, a little more Broadway, than the predecessor. The three wives are unalike. Susan Martin, who early learnt that the only way to be happy with a husband is to be happy without him most of the time, gels vastly bucked and foolishly gigglesomo at the prospect of her Spaniard (from Brooklyn), , and ventures on tho side of the ultra, but merely ventures; Kitty Ladd, the prime mover in the game, is bold and adventurous, with an exploring mind; Ethel is the oldest, diflidenfc highly virtuous, enormously frightened of the Swede, whom she draws in the lottery Theso three women arc played by Louise Fazenda, J'lthel Wales, and Dorothy Phillips. The honours go to tho firstnamed, ( who, as the volatile Susan, carries the house along a path of uproar and hilarity wUh her.
