NORTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT. (press association telegeam.) WANGANUI, January 27. The North. Island croquet championships ■were continued to-day, when the visiting English players joined in the matches. A notable win was that of Mrs E. A. Smith (Christchurch), who defeated Miss R. Skeot, present holder of he North Island championship. Colonel du Pre gave a brilliant exhibition of croquet, defeating Mrß Vf. J. Kirk in two straight games. Sir Francis Weymss, after a somewhat indifferent opening, produced good form and beat Colonel Savile (Auckland). Ross beat Mrs C. Watkins, but both gave more chances than usual. The Test match against England will be played on Friday next.
